Are You a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation with Lift?

As a general rule, a good candidate for breast augmentation with lift is someone who has:

1. deflated, drooping breasts
2. downward-pointing nipples
3. loss of breast volume (causing breasts to look “scooped out”)
4. pendulous and/or flat breasts with elongated or enlarged areolas
5. one breast lower or larger than the other

Breast augmentation with lift is performed as an outpatient procedure. The patient will be placed under general anesthesia for the duration of the procedure, which takes on average about two hours to finish.

1. Dr. Ennis begins the surgery by making an incision, either around the areola, and/or down the front of the breast and across the breast fold.
2. He will then remove any excess skin and tissue causing the breast to sag.
3. The remaining tissue will be reshaped and breast implants will be placed under the chest muscle, as this will help support the weight of the implant and not pull back down over time.
4. The type of implant placed will be decided upon during the initial patient consultation.
5. Finally, the doctor will close the incisions with dissolvable sutures.

The patient will need someone to drive them home and stay with them for the first 48 to 72 hours, as they will have limited mobility and will need to rest during this time. The breasts will be protected with a soft, surgical bra for the first month of recovery. There will be swelling and bruising in the chest area, and any associated discomfort can be relieved with the use of prescription pain medication.

Dr. Ennis does not recommend taking aspirin or ibuprofen for the first week, as these medications may increase the risk of bleeding. Smoking is absolutely prohibited the few weeks before and after surgery, as it will interfere with the healing process.

To aid with circulation and help alleviate swelling, it is important to walk around the first day or two, post-surgery. Avoid strenuous exercise and lifting objects over 10 pounds for four to six weeks. Patients can return to an office job after seven to 10 days, and after 10 to 14 days for more physical jobs.
