About Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty is a proven method for helping men and women with excess, sagging abdominal tissues to achieve a smoother, flatter stomach. The tummy tuck procedure typically involves drains as a method of reducing post-op swelling and fluid buildup.
“Most patients find the most difficult aspect of their abdominoplasty was having the drains during their recovery and although the drain tubes are beneficial and necessary, they are somewhat of a nuisance,” states Dr. Ennis. “As a way of continuing to bring state of the art and innovative care to my cosmetic surgery patients, I have begun offering the drainless abdominoplasty option for select tummy tuck patients utilizing the new FDA approved TissueGlu.”
Dr Ennis says not everyone is a candidate and each person would need to be evaluated to assess their eligibility for this procedure.

During a tummy tuck, small plastic tubes that pass through the skin are placed to help prevent fluid from accumulating in the potential space between the fat layer and underlying abdominal muscles. They often remain in place for a week or two and patients are instructed on how to measure and empty the drainage bulbs of the accumulated fluid.
TissuGlu helps transform recovery into a less invasive, more comfortable experience, freeing the patient from the burden of drains and eliminating the risk of drain-related infection. In clinical studies, TissuGlu patients could resume normal daily activities (showering, driving, and returning to work) more quickly than those who had traditional drains.
The drainless tummy tuck is performed using general anesthesia, generally as an outpatient procedure. The surgery will take from two to four hours.
