As we get older, people often complain about looking tired and old. There is a common misconception that this is an issue with the skin drooping but in reality it is the muscles and ligaments of the face begin to get lax and become tired causing the “droopy” look and giving the patient to look older.
The underlying issue of the “tired look” is the structural support of the a face which needs to be corrected by tightening the muscle and ligaments of the face and not necessarily pulling the skin tight. Only pulling the skin tight can cause a very pulled, unnatural or “plastic” look. To correct this, many men and women seek a facelift from board-certified plastic surgeon thats uses a Deep Plan Facelift technique. Dr. Scott Ennis is an expert with the Deep Plane Facelift and uses it to rejuvenate and restore the face to a more youthful position that is also natural looking.

What Part of the Face is Lifted?
“The term “facelift” is a very generic term and misleading as people often think a facelift will correct aging of the entire face, said Dr. Ennis. “Many patients consider a facelift involving the entire face; however, it only addresses the lower-third from the mid cheek pad down through the neck. The brow and eyes are actually separate areas”

Deep Plane Facelift
The key part to correcting the aging process of the lower face, is to correct the structural problems of the face and neck with a specialized technique Dr. Ennis uses called a deep-plane facelift. With the deep-plane facelift, the critical factor is to tighten the structural portions of the muscles and ligaments of the face so there is no tension on the skin. Once this is done, it leaves the patient with a very natural, youthful-looking lower face, jawline, and neck.
“Facial aging is a structural problem not a skin problem. When we age, the muscles, ligaments and fat pads of the face began to lose their elasticity and droop. The skin is very dynamic and just follows the support structures down as they fall,” states Dr. Ennis. “Previous solutions, which unfortunately I still see in practice today, are the outdated ‘Nip and Tuck’ facelift. Its focus was just pulling the skin tight which left the patient with a very unnatural look.”
Another disadvantage of the skin-only surgical technique is lack of long lasting results. As skin is extremely elastic, it would stretch out very quickly again without the support structure to keep it elevated.
“The key to giving the face a very natural, refreshed look is tightening the muscles and ligaments of the face.”
Be Aware of These Things
Be aware of marketing gimmicks such as the “Life Style Lift” or the “Quick Lift” as they are a shortcut to a much more complicated problem that cant be fixed by just “quickly” pulling the skin tight. The results will reflect effort that is put into correcting the underlying structural support issues.
